Problem

Healthcare facilities across the U.S.—particularly smaller clinics and non-standard care settings—face ongoing challenges in determining the appropriate number of medical staff. Outdated staffing ratios and manual calculations often result in either under- or over-staffing, leading to compliance risks, operational inefficiencies, and increased costs.

Key challenges include:

  • No Standardized Guidelines Across Facility Types
There’s a lack of consistent, widely adopted recommendations for staffing medical professionals across different types of healthcare facilities, making it difficult to benchmark or plan effectively.

  • Complex Facility-Specific Variables
Critical factors such as bed count, facility type, staffing mix (FTEs), and care level are not easily captured or integrated into a single system, preventing accurate staffing assessments.

  • No Automated Staffing Calculations
Without automation, administrators rely on manual inputs and static spreadsheets, with no built-in logic to calculate minimum staffing levels based on dynamic thresholds or policy-driven ranges.

  • Limited Administrative Control and Permissions
Administrators struggle to manage data and users at scale. Existing systems offer minimal support for role-based access or centralized oversight, which hinders accountability and secure data governance.

Solution

CodeBright developed a robust SKU-based access control system with the following features:

  • SKU Integration: Each user is assigned a SKU (Product Code) upon login via SSO, encapsulated in an encrypted JSON token.

  • Policy Types: Templates are categorized under specific policy types, determining their visibility based on the user’s SKU.

  • Subscriptions: Users are grouped under subscriptions (Basic, Pro, Enterprise), each with defined access levels and priorities.

  • Automated Access Assignment: Upon authentication, the system decrypts the JSON token to assign appropriate access rights based on the user’s SKU and subscription.

  • Admin Controls: Administrators can create and manage policy types and subscriptions, defining active SKUs and setting priorities.

Results

The implementation of the SKU-based access control system significantly improved overall operations. By ensuring that users could only access resources relevant to their roles and subscriptions, it strengthened security across the platform. Automated access assignments reduced the burden on administrators, streamlining internal workflows and boosting operational efficiency.

The system was built with scalability in mind, allowing it to support a growing user base without compromising control or performance. As a result, users now enjoy a seamless login experience and instant access to the resources they need, leading to higher satisfaction and smoother daily operations.
