There’s nothing greater than when that light bulb goes off in your head. In a matter of seconds, you go from fearing what the future holds to thinking, “I’ve got the next million-dollar mobile app idea!”
It’s a great feeling, indeed, but what good is an idea without execution? After all, the light bulb, for example, would’ve never been invented if electricity was nothing more than a mere idea throughout history.
With that being said, it’s time to turn that idea into a reality — something to be proud of. Which leads us to the million-dollar question:
What do you do now?
First thing’s first, you have to understand what you’ll potentially get yourself into. Having a mobile app idea is one thing, but turning that into a real-life product is a business move. Even if you plan on releasing the app for free, there will be a lot of management involved to ensure your app delivers its promise.
With this in mind, start to develop a plan of attack. Make sure you have enough time to dedicate to this project, create a budget, and weigh the risks vs. rewards involved. Making these decisions now will help you avoid disruptions and delays throughout the process.
What makes your app unique over the others?
With millions of apps available for download on the mobile market, you’re not the first person to have a mobile app idea — and you won’t be the last. While competition will be high, that’s no reason to lose motivation. In fact, that’s all the more reason to make your app idea better than everyone else’s.
Think about what your user would want out of this app, not just what you want it to do. Start mapping out all the different features your mobile app will include. Write them down and document the many reasons why your app will reign superior to the others. By now, you should have a solid “business plan” to build off of.
Want to start your own startup?
Do you have a design laid out?
Not everyone can claim to be a master artist, but that shouldn’t stop you from bringing out the good ole’ notepad and colored pencils. Design is just as important as function when it comes to a mobile app. If it’s not appealing to the user, they’ll quickly lose interest in your million dollar idea.
If you’re not a confident illustrator, simply take out your phone and trace the shape of it onto a piece of paper. Fit as many “screens” on the piece of paper as possible, using the front and back. Think of this as a storyboard that will map out how certain app pages will look on the user’s end. Think of menu placement, color schemes, logos, and anything else your app will contain.
It doesn’t have to be perfect but will be helpful when it’s time to start developing the app.
Do you need assistance bringing it to life?
Chances are you don’t have the necessary app development experience to bring your app to life. Don’t worry, this is the case with many others that act on their million-dollar idea. The truth is, technology itself wouldn’t be where it is today if it weren’t for teamwork. Start seeking professional help so you can have a confident team ready to execute your idea.
An app developer will be high on your list, but you might also want to consider marketing help, customer service, and someone who can provide additional funding for your project. With the right team, everything will start to come together and you’ll have a mobile app in no time.
Remember, an idea is just as valuable as the time and effort needed to turn it into reality. The next time you have a mobile app idea, don’t let it go to waste. Act on it, execute it, and share it with others!
